WestJet Flight Compensation Guide

The following steps will give you all the information that you need to file a claim successfully with WestJet.

Step 1: Determine Eligibility for Flight Compensation

To check if you qualify for compensation from WestJet due to a flight delay or cancellation, here’s a simplified guide:

  1. Information Disclosure
  • WestJet must inform affected passengers about the reason for the delay, cancellation, or denial of boarding.
  • During a delay, WestJet is required to provide status updates to passengers every 30 minutes until a new departure time is set or alternate travel arrangements are made.
  1. Jurisdiction:  As long as your flight is operated by WestJet, it MUST adhere to the standards put forth by the Canadian Transportation Agency.
  2. Compensation Rates
  • If the delay is between 3 and 6 hours – $400
  • If the delay is between 6 and 9 hours – $700
  • If the delay is more than 9 hours – $1000
  1. Valid Booking: Make sure you have a valid booking or reservation for the affected flight.
  2. Arrival Time: Compensation is based on your actual arrival time at your final destination, not the departure time.

Step 3: Follow-Up on Your Claim

After contacting Air Canada to determine your eligibility and filing a compensation claim, it’s crucial to maintain open communication channels. Unfortunately, there may be instances where airlines, including Air Canada, initially ignore or delay responding to your claim. This is where persistent follow-up becomes essential. By staying in touch and monitoring your claim’s progress, you can address any potential attempts to ignore or delay the claim promptly. While airlines may sometimes require additional information or time to process claims, your persistence can ensure your claim is not overlooked. Your commitment to follow-up can play a significant role in expediting your claim and securing the compensation you deserve.

Step 4: Seeking Legal Help Through ClaimCatalyst

If your compensation claim with Air Canada proves unsuccessful or the airline remains unresponsive, you may find yourself in need of legal assistance. However, hiring lawyers can be expensive and time-consuming. It’s crucial not to let the waiting game with Air Canada drag on, as there is a statute of limitations on filing airline compensations. This is where ClaimCatalyst steps in. Our team of experienced legal professionals specializes in flight compensation claims, understanding the intricacies of dealing with airlines like Air Canada. By entrusting your case to ClaimCatalyst, you can ensure that your claim is pursued efficiently and effectively, without the burden of high legal costs.
